YRES Brings LEGO Learning to Georges-Étienne-Cartier Fun Fair

York Region Educational Services attended the Georges-Étienne-Cartier Fun Fair with team members Joanna, Emily, and Asteria. Together, they welcomed students and families to the YRES booth, introduced children to LEGO activities, and spoke with parents about YRES programs and opportunities.

Team lead Joanna noted that one of the biggest highlights was seeing children’s excitement as they played with LEGO and won prizes. LEGO Robotics was especially popular, with students eager to code the robot and watch it move in different directions. Joanna also appreciated the support of her team, noting how quickly they adapted throughout the event. She shared that “it was wonderful to see the students excited to explore our different LEGO activities”, and added that parents were also interested in learning more about YRES programs.

Emily highlighted the strong student engagement at the booth, as children were genuinely excited to participate in the activities. She also noted that the posters and flyers helped generate curiosity and bring a steady stream of approximately 20+ families to the station, while the pre-event briefing helped the team feel prepared. Emily described the experience as “incredibly rewarding”, especially because she was able to connect directly with children, teachers, and parents in the community.

Asteria enjoyed seeing many children participating in the activities, with some showing strong focus and attention. She also had the opportunity to speak with interested parents and provided a detailed introduction to YRES programs. Reflecting on the event, Asteria shared that the experience was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the local community and share YRES’s vision.

Overall, the Georges-Étienne-Cartier Fun Fair was a successful opportunity for YRES to connect with families, promote hands-on LEGO learning, and introduce parents to the organization’s educational programs. Through strong teamwork, engaging activities, and positive community interactions, the event created a fun and memorable experience for students, families, and staff.
