Community Events

Our goal is to support local children, youth, and families by providing holiday gifts, essential school supplies, and festive cheer to those who may otherwise go without.

You could donate:

• Toys: We’re collecting new or gently loved toys for children. From cuddly teddy bears to creative building sets and fun board games!

• Books: We’re collecting new and gently used books for kids and teens, from picture books and adventure stories to inspiring chapter books and classics. Donate a story, share the magic, and help a child dream big this Christmas.

• School Supplies: We aim to collect school supplies to distribute to students for the new year!

At YRES, we’re hosting free information sessions where families can learn more about our educational programs. They will be held at Markham Public Library and Richmond Hill Public Library branches, and are open to anyone.

Our team will walk you through our programs, answer questions, and help you decide which opportunities are the best fit for you or your child.

We are also looking for passionate volunteers to support our programs and work in the community.

From LEGO robotics stations to exciting mini challenges and friendly competitions, our fun fair sessions give kids a chance to explore, build, play, and have an amazing time while families learn more about YRES programs.

Experience a day of community and connection! We invite youth and young adults ages 12–30 in the Durham Region to join us for an exciting networking fair. Connect with local non-profits, community centres, and libraries from across Durham, discover ways to get involved, and meet other passionate young people in your community. YRES is thrilled to be collaborating with U+ Community in releasing the 2026 Children and Youth Regional Speech Contest at the Flato Theatre this coming August!

This event provides children and youth a platform to demonstrate their leadership abilities and passion for public speaking by sharing valuable ideas that have the potential to make a meaningful and lasting impact on their communities.
