York Region Educational Services attended the Unionville Public School Fun Fair with team members Chloe, Eris, Aidan, and Logan. Together, they introduced children to hands-on LEGO activities, spoke with families about YRES summer camps, and shared volunteer and leadership opportunities with older students.
Chloe highlighted the strong interest students showed in the LEGO activities. Although the robotics kit was missing its prebuilt model and motor components, participants adapted by building their own LEGO cars with the materials available. She also appreciated seeing older students ask about volunteer and leadership opportunities. The event attracted strong attendance and generated approximately 20 sign-ups. Chloe described it as “a great opportunity to connect with students and families in the community,” especially while watching children showcase their creativity through original designs.
Eris focused on speaking with parents about YRES summer camps and introducing students to the organization’s volunteer program. She shared that it was “wonderful speaking to the parents and students” about the accessible and engaging summer camp programs YRES has offered across the Greater Toronto Area for the past three years.
For Aidan, a memorable highlight was explaining the summer camp pricing and seeing how positively parents responded. He also taught children about LEGO robotics and introduced families to the programs offered by YRES. Aidan described the Fun Fair as “an amazing experience” and said the role allowed him to represent YRES at its best.
Logan supported the event by photographing the booth and activities. It was his first time using a camera, and he was pleased with how the photos turned out. He described the Fun Fair as a well-run event that provided useful information to children and parents, adding that “it’s super important to keep up our presence at these community events.”
Overall, the Unionville Public School Fun Fair gave YRES a valuable opportunity to connect with families, promote accessible educational programs, and encourage students to explore creativity, volunteering, and leadership. The team’s adaptability and strong community outreach helped make the event both informative and engaging.
