YRES Brings Hands-On STEAM Learning to Ashton Meadows Public School

York Region Educational Services attended the LEGO Fun Fair at Ashton Meadows Public School with team members Celia, Jean, Emily, and Chloe. Together, they hosted interactive LEGO activities, connected with students and families, and shared information about YRES programs, including RoboNova and summer camp opportunities.

Celia, the event lead, shared that the team contributed to a fun and engaging environment through LEGO activities while seeing strong interest from parents in RoboNova and summer camp. She also noted that YRES’ impact in the community was recognized, as some parents mentioned they had heard of YRES before and encouraged the team to keep up the great work. Celia described the event as “super rewarding”, especially because the team was able to help children grow an interest in STEAM at an early age while making a positive community impact.

Jean highlighted how much children enjoyed the LEGO maze, the prize wheel, and the chance to take photos with the marketing team. Despite some wind, the weather made it enjoyable to stay outdoors, and many parents came by to ask questions about YRES programs. Jean described the experience as “fun and engaging”, adding that children were able to try different LEGO activities and express their interest in them.

Emily shared that one of the strongest highlights was seeing community recognition in action. Many parents already knew YRES from library information sessions, showing that previous outreach efforts were helping build awareness. She also noticed parents becoming excited about STEAM camp after watching their children interact with robotics and LEGO Art activities. Emily described the event as “an incredibly rewarding experience”, especially because children remained curious, engaged, and excited even after the event had officially ended.

Chloe, the marketing lead, highlighted the team’s strong collaboration throughout the day. She appreciated seeing staff cover for one another, solve problems quickly, and create positive interactions with families and students. Chloe described the LEGO Fun Fair as “a great experience” and said it was rewarding to showcase YRES programs while working alongside a supportive team.

Overall, the Ashton Meadows Public School LEGO Fun Fair was a meaningful opportunity for YRES to connect with families, promote accessible STEAM learning, and strengthen its presence in the community. Through teamwork, hands-on activities, and strong parent interest, the team created a fun and positive experience for students and families.
