York Region Educational Services attended the LEGO Fun Fair at Ramer Wood Public School with team members Jean, Nora, Sharany, and Matthew. Together, the team hosted an engaging booth where children explored LEGO activities, participated in hands-on challenges, and learned more about YRES programs.
Jean, the event lead, shared that one of the biggest highlights was seeing how much the children enjoyed the booth and how interested they were in LEGO activities. Even when the robot was not functioning as expected, the team was able to adapt and find another way to continue running the activity. Jean described the event as “a successful and informative LEGO fun fair on a sunny day”, adding that they hoped similar events could be held again in the future.
The booth also created plenty of excitement for families. Nora shared that one memorable moment was when “one of the kids won a plushie”, along with the excitement of the ice cream truck and the large crowd of families visiting the station. She explained that “Fun Fairs are a great way to connect with the community and showcase our various programs in LEGO, while also giving children a short but educational experience”.
For Sharany, the event was especially meaningful because it showed the importance of teamwork and adaptability. She highlighted how her team worked together to create a welcoming and fun environment despite different obstacles throughout the day. She shared that her first Fun Fair was “an incredible experience and a valuable opportunity for personal growth”, adding that the children’s creativity encouraged her to think more creatively during the activities.
Matthew, the marketing lead, noted that the team received 13 sign-ups from attendees interested in learning more about YRES programs. He also shared that the prize wheel and prizes helped encourage participation, while many parents showed enthusiasm for YRES’ Summer Camp program. Reflecting on the experience, Matthew said the Fun Fair was “a great experience” and helped him develop as a team player while working with others to ensure the booth ran smoothly.
Overall, the LEGO Fun Fair at Ramer Wood Public School was a successful opportunity for YRES to connect with families, promote hands-on learning, and introduce children to the creativity and problem-solving involved in LEGO activities. Through teamwork, adaptability, and community engagement, the team helped create a fun and memorable experience for children and parents alike.
