York Region Educational Services attended the Fun Fair at Glen Cedar Public School with team members Krisanne, Nathaniel, Adam, Yukie, and their volunteer Janet. Together, the team hosted a lively booth where children explored LEGO Art and Science activities, participated in challenges, and enjoyed the excitement of the prize wheel.
Krisanne shared that one of the highlights of the event was interacting with children and parents at the booth, as well as enjoying some of the other Fun Fair activities with the team at the end of the program. Reflecting on the event, she said, “My team and I had a lovely time at our fun fair at Glen Cedar P.S.!” She also recognized the strong teamwork that helped make the event successful, highlighting Nathaniel and Adam for engaging children in LEGO activities, Janet Wan for managing the prize wheel and supporting the activity stations, and Yukie for promoting YRES programs to parents.
Throughout the day, the booth gave the team many opportunities to connect with families in a natural and meaningful way. Nathaniel shared that one memorable moment came from a casual conversation with a parent about a watch, which led to a friendly discussion and an opportunity to introduce YRES programs. He described the event as “a lot of fun”, adding that getting into the community was a great way to connect with parents and meet new people.
Adam enjoyed working directly with children who were excited about LEGO and helping them complete different challenges. He described the event as “awesome”, saying that he was able to engage with kids who were very interested in LEGO. A fun team highlight also came after the event, when the group participated in a “cow milking contest”, adding a lighthearted and memorable ending to the day.
Yukie also appreciated the chance to interact with children and parents throughout the Fun Fair. She shared that “Fun fairs are super fun”, and said she loved speaking with everyone who stopped by the booth. She also noted that Glen Cedar Public School made the team feel especially welcome and was helpful in providing materials for both setup and cleanup.
Overall, the Fun Fair at Glen Cedar Public School was a wonderful opportunity for YRES to connect with families, promote hands-on LEGO learning, and share its programs with the community. Through teamwork, creativity, and strong community engagement, the YRES team helped create a fun and welcoming experience for children, parents, and staff alike.
