YRES Celebrates Community and LEGO Learning at Elder’s Mills School Fun Fair

York Region Educational Services attended the Elder’s Mills School Fun Fair with team members Gabrielle, Olivia, Clement, and Daphne. Together, they hosted LEGO Science, LEGO Art, and LEGO Robotics stations, giving children a fun preview of the hands-on learning they can experience through YRES programs and summer camps.

Gabrielle, the team lead, shared that every child who visited the booth had the chance to try at least two activities. The sticker and tattoo prizes were especially popular, and the team was able to support one another smoothly between each group of children. She also appreciated the friendly school staff, who even shared cake with the team at the end of the event. Gabrielle noted that the Fun Fair gave families “a glimpse” of what they could expect from YRES summer camps, including both the curriculum and the team.

Olivia highlighted the excitement of children participating in the LEGO challenges. She also valued the opportunity to build her communication skills, connect with the community, and get closer with staff as the event progressed. Olivia shared that the children were engaged, everyone played their roles well, and team members stepped in to help whenever needed.

Clement noted that many children and parents were interested in the programs demonstrated throughout the event. Families asked questions about YRES, camp locations, and the different programs offered. He shared that “every station was busy” and that LEGO Science, Art, and Robotics all received strong attention from children eager to try the activities and win prizes.

Daphne, the marketing lead, highlighted a meaningful conversation with a parent about a possible opportunity to expand in Vaughan. She described the Fun Fair at Elder’s Mills School as “a fun and memorable day”, especially because the team was also able to celebrate the school’s anniversary and enjoy cake. Daphne also noted that the team’s strong LEGO experience helped make the event engaging and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Overall, the Elder’s Mills School Fun Fair was a successful opportunity for YRES to connect with families, promote its LEGO programs, and celebrate with the school community. Through engaging activities, teamwork, and strong parent interest, the team created a fun and informative experience for children and families.
