On April 25, 2026, York Region Educational Services (YRES), in collaboration with Ignite, hosted another highly successful Volunteer Fair, bringing together non-profit organizations (NPOs) and community members eager to make a difference in their communities.
The event was planned with one clear goal in mind: to connect passionate individuals with volunteer opportunities across York Region. With over 35 participating organizations and more than 250 attendees, the fair created a vibrant and welcoming space for networking, learning, and community engagement.
“Being part of this event from start to finish, whether it was reaching out to organizations or managing logistics day-of, gave me a much clearer understanding of what it takes to bring a community initiative to life. Seeing it all come together and the impact it had made the experience so genuinely rewarding.”

Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with a diverse range of organizations representing different sectors such as health, education, social services, and environmental advocacy. For many organizations, the fair provided a valuable platform to share their missions, highlight current initiatives, and recruit dedicated volunteers. These conversations allowed participants to explore the different causes they care about, ask questions, and discover how they can contribute their time and skills in impactful ways.
The atmosphere of the event reflected a strong sense of collaboration and shared purpose. Volunteers, organizers, and community partners alike contributed to an environment that was both energetic and supportive, reinforcing the importance of community involvement and collective impact.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible volunteers. Their commitment, hard work, and willingness to step up made all the difference. At YRES, we’re proud to be represented by such a dedicated group, and we’re truly grateful for everything they contributed.
“I could not be more proud of the job our volunteers did at the fair. I was really impressed by their professionalism, initiative, and commitment to make sure it was run as smoothly as possible.”

“Volunteering at the fair was such a meaningful experience because I got to see firsthand how many people are passionate about giving back. It was inspiring to help connect attendees with organizations and opportunities that matched their interests, and it made me feel proud to be part of an event that brought the community together.”- Volunteer, YRES April Volunteer Fair

As the event concluded, it was clear that the connections made throughout the day would extend far beyond the fair itself. Many attendees left not only with new opportunities, but with a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to give back.
This event was further strengthened by the generous support of our sponsors, Markham Dog Alliance, Good Deeds, and TD Wealth, whose contributions helped make the fair possible. We also extend our appreciation to our guest speakers, Robert Kolosowski, YRDSB Trustee, and Ron Lynn, YRDSB Board Chair, for sharing their insights and inspiring attendees throughout the event.

YRES and Ignite would like to extend our sincere thanks to all participating organizations, volunteers, and attendees who helped make this event possible. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and support are what continue to drive the success of initiatives like this.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to our volunteer fair in September!
