1. What is/was your role and what do/did your responsibilities entail?
At York Region Educational Services (YRES), I serve as the Community Coordinator. In this role, I focus on fostering partnerships and building connections with other organizations to explore opportunities for collaboration. By reaching out and initiating these conversations, I help create valuable relationships that support our mission and contribute to our ongoing community impact.
A significant part of my role also involves representing YRES at various events throughout the region. I attend community gatherings and set up booths to promote our programs and initiatives. These events allow us to increase public awareness of our work, engage with local residents, and recruit new volunteers who are passionate about making a difference. Through these outreach efforts, we continue to expand our presence and strengthen our role in the community.
In addition to external outreach, I contribute to the growth of our social media channels. I help develop and share content that reflects our values, highlights our work, and engages our audience. This digital presence is an important tool in connecting with a wider audience and keeping the community informed and involved in what we do.
2. How has working at YRES contributed to your professional growth and development?
YRES has played a significant role in my professional development and personal growth. Through my involvement, I’ve had the opportunity to attend a variety of events where I was able to network with professionals from diverse industries and backgrounds. These experiences have exposed me to new perspectives, ideas, and career paths that I may not have encountered otherwise. Building these connections has not only broadened my understanding of different fields, but also provided me with a network of professionals I can reach out to for advice, collaboration, or mentorship in the future.
Additionally, I’ve gained valuable experience in reaching out to other organizations, whether for partnerships, event planning, or collaborative initiatives. This has strengthened my communication skills and given me a deeper understanding of professional outreach and relationship building. Taking initiative on several projects has also allowed me to develop leadership skills, particularly in coordinating logistics, delegating tasks, and adapting to real-time challenges.
Through these experiences, I’ve become more confident in public speaking, managing professional relationships, and navigating different stakeholder interests. I’ve also learned to use tools and strategies that are essential for successful project management and community engagement. Perhaps most importantly, my time with YRES has reinforced my commitment to youth empowerment and sustainability. These are values that continue to guide my personal and professional journey. Overall, YRES has been instrumental in shaping my confidence, professional presence, and ability to engage meaningfully within a broader community.

3. What do you appreciate most about the company culture?
What I most appreciate about the company culture is how genuinely kind, supportive, and welcoming the team is. From the very beginning, I’ve felt encouraged to be myself, which has made it much easier to adapt and grow in my role. There’s a strong sense of openness here that allows me to ask questions freely, no matter how big or small. I never feel judged or hesitant when seeking help or clarification, which speaks volumes about the environment the team has built. It’s comforting to know that I can approach anyone, whether it’s a teammate, manager, or someone from another department, they’ll be willing to listen and offer support. This kind of culture fosters a real sense of inclusion, trust, and belonging, and it’s one of the things that makes working here such a positive experience.
