1. What is/was your role and what do/did your responsibilities entail?
My role is a Youth Advisor, in charge of helping out with volunteer management and providing volunteers with placement opportunities for YRES’ Volunteer Success Program, funded by Canada Service Corps!
My daily responsibilities include messaging our volunteers to answer any questions they have and see how they’re doing, providing information on our current opportunities to find which one is the right fit for them, conducting initial calls with those who’d like to volunteer for our program, and offering training and career development resources to help grow and succeed as they volunteer.
I like to think of myself as almost a guidance counsellor for our volunteers—always ready to offer advice and a helping hand, and so part of my responsibility is also being knowledgeable of the current opportunities and special events that take place here at YRES.
2. How has working at YRES contributed to your professional growth and development?
Before becoming a Youth Advisor, I was actually a Camp Site Leader for YRES back in Summer 2024. YRES has contributed to my professional development and growth by offering me a number of unique opportunities that are not only related to my field of study, but expand my skills in areas that I had yet to explore.
My passion has always lied in the field of education and psychology. While my initial interest was to work with children, I’ve since found my calling as a leader working with people of all ages in educational and community spaces. By working at an NPO like YRES that has a program that prioritizes giving opportunities to volunteers from all walks of life, I am able to further explore my skills as a leader and someone that volunteers can rely on to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for them.

3. What do you appreciate most about the company culture?
I appreciate the range of experiences and ages in the company, providing lots of fresh perspectives on any challenges we may face. From our High School Co-ops, to University students, and all the way up to our seasoned staff, there is always something new to learn.
I also really appreciate how much every member of the company is celebrated every step of the way. It’s nice to see all of the congratulations and celebratory messages in the many channels we have and it’s encouraging knowing that my work is being seen and valued by the team.
