LEGO Robotics Curriculum Review

Our LEGO Introduction to STEAM program blends play with science, technology, engineering, art, and math! Using LEGO® DUPLO® bricks, children create games exploring gears, tracks, pulleys, and more. Each activity sparks curiosity while building problem-solving, spatial awareness, cause-and-effect reasoning, and teamwork skills.

JK - Grade 1

Our LEGO Introduction to Robotics program blends hands-on creativity with the fundamentals of robotics, engineering, and coding! Using the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential Set, learners build and program models, exploring motors, sensors, and simple coding concepts.

Grade 2 - Grade 3

Spark your child’s curiosity and teamwork skills with our LEGO Advanced Robotics program! Through hands-on building and coding challenges, young engineers will dive into the world of robotics to solve real-world problems. From designing and programming robots to tackling obstacle courses and creative missions, every activity sharpens problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Grade 4 - Grade 8

FAQ

Within each group of 4–5 students, there is one assistant coach. In a typical class of 25 students, this means there are 4–5 assistant coaches in addition to the head coach.

Classes are typically 1hr for each of the 3 programs hosted on Saturday’s. 9:00am to 10:00am for Intro to STEAM Program, 10:00am to 11:00am for Intro to LEGO Robotics, and 11:00am to 12:00pm for Advanced LEGO Robotics

No. All equipment—including LEGO kits and laptops—is provided.

Each group is supervised and assisted by our coaches. We also encourage team-building and follow safety protocols throughout the activities.

No prerequisites. Students should be comfortable working in a team, using a computer (such as dragging blocks in a coding interface), and building with LEGO. The program is designed to be accessible and straightforward.

  • LEGO Introduction to Robotics Program: Introduces basic building, coding, and problem-solving skills that match early school science and math lessons.
  • Advanced LEGO Robotics Program: Uses SPIKE Prime to offer more challenging projects that mirror advanced science and math concepts, bridging classroom learning with real-world problem-solving.
  • Intro to S.T.E.A.M. Program: Engages the youngest students by connecting the fun of building amusement park rides and games with foundational STEAM concepts, showing how school subjects apply to real-world projects.

Yes. Our coaches proactively monitor progress and provide one-on-one assistance when a student is struggling.

In the LEGO Introduction to Robotics program, the LEGO Education SPIKE™ Essential Set features a block-based coding platform that introduces fundamental programming concepts. In the LEGO Advanced Robotics program, students can transition to text-based programming—typically using Python—to explore coding principles in greater depth.

Our future plans include incorporating advanced LEGO Robotics students into friendly competitions that expand their building potential through expansion kits and advanced robotics kits such as LEGO EV3.

We are happy to provide one-on-one support for students with special needs. We ask that parents notify us in advance so we can arrange the appropriate staff and accommodations.

Yes, you can sign up for more than one day. However, only the first day is free. For any additional days, we require proof of donation to our robotics fund. You can find donation details on our website’s donation tab at https://yorkeducation.org/donation/.
