In April 2025, the YRES team had the privilege of participating in the Centennial Career Fair 2025.
The Centennial Career Fair is an annual event designed to bridge the gap between employers and job seekers. It serves as a key opportunity for students, recent graduates, and seasoned professionals to connect with a wide variety of companies looking to fill open positions. The fair features a diverse mix of industries, from technology and engineering to healthcare, business, and the arts, ensuring there is something for every career path. Attendees had the chance to explore different employers, learn about career prospects, and gain valuable insights. The fair also emphasized the importance of networking, with numerous opportunities to speak directly with company representatives, ask questions, and understand what employers look for in potential candidates. It was a comprehensive event that not only focused on job placement but also highlighted the importance of professional growth and lifelong learning in today’s fast-changing job market.
As a booth exhibitor, we had the opportunity to engage directly with students, job seekers, and professionals from various industries. It was an enriching experience filled with meaningful conversations about career opportunities, industry trends, and what it takes to succeed in today’s job market. The event not only provided insights into how potential candidates are preparing for their careers, but also allowed us to reflect on the importance of networking and talent development. We are currently hiring for various summer staff positions as well as volunteers.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of hosting the booth was seeing the enthusiasm and drive of the students and job seekers. It was evident that the younger generation is more prepared than ever to step into roles that require innovation and creativity. The event highlighted for me that companies need to offer more than just a job; they need to provide growth opportunities, mentorship, and a culture that fosters development. I came away thinking a lot about how our company can better position itself to attract this eager talent.” — Filipe, Community Coordinator at York Region Educational Services.
“Representing York Region Educational Services at the career fair was an incredibly rewarding experience. My role at the booth was to answer questions and share insights about the opportunities we offer, and every conversation felt unique. I loved the diversity of questions and the curiosity that students brought to the table—it really highlighted the interest in education and public service. I felt a deep sense of pride in representing our company and the impactful work we do. Ultimately, I hope that the students left with a clear sense of how they could be part of something meaningful and were inspired to apply.” — Mikayla, HR Coordinator at York Region Educational Services.
Overall, the Centennial Career Fair 2025 was a rewarding experience that not only allowed us to connect with potential talent but also deepened our understanding of the current trends in job seeking and employer expectations. We left the event feeling energized and inspired to continue fostering an environment of growth, learning, and opportunity at York Region Educational Services.
