Newmarket High School (NHS) Volunteer Fair

YRES traveled north on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, to participate in Newmarket High School’s volunteer fair. It was an exciting morning filled with energy and engagement.

Students visited different organization’s booths set up along the walls of the main foyer in between classes, with some even coming by when they were simply excused from class to use the bathroom. One organization had a fun dart board game to engage students, while we distributed free notebooks, makeup, and novels and targeted our recruitment for 2025 camp volunteers. Several students were surprised by the variety of volunteer locations we offer and were particularly interested in the opportunity to gain priority consideration for seasonal jobs at YRES after volunteering and excelling in their roles. At YRES, not only are we committed to help young learners and campers build valuable skills, but also to foster continuous skill development in volunteers and employees.

We previously had limited volunteering opportunities in the Newmarket Public Library, where volunteers would promote YRES and share our programs and resources with library-goers. As we expand our in-person volunteering opportunities beyond Markham and Richmond Hill to the surrounding cities in York Region, including Aurora—Oak Ridges and Vaughan, we look forward to welcoming more Newmarket residents to join our volunteer team in the near future!
