What were your initial expectations coming to work at YRES, and how have they evolved after your first month on the job?

Initially, I expected my role at YRES as a marketing coordinator to involve predetermined daily tasks within a structured environment. I anticipated working towards set goals, enjoying the variety each day would bring. After my first month, my expectations have evolved positively. I’ve found that while there are certain tasks and goals, there’s also room for creativity and adaptability. I appreciate the dynamic nature of the work, where each day presents new challenges and opportunities. Overall, I’m enjoying the environment and the chance to contribute to YRES’s marketing efforts in diverse ways.

What were your first interactions with the team and how have you been working to build relationships between you and your fellow team members?

My initial interactions with the YRES team were characterized by their willingness to help and explain anything I was uncertain about. Everyone introduced themselves multiple times, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. Some of my colleagues were former classmates from Guelph-Humber, which facilitated a smooth transition. To build relationships, I’ve proactively introduced myself to others and reached out to collaborate on our shared goals. I’ve also participated in team activities and meetings, fostering camaraderie and a sense of belonging within the group. These efforts have contributed to a positive working environment and stronger team cohesion.

How do you envision your term at YRES contributing to your personal and professional growth?

My term at YRES has been instrumental in fostering both my personal and professional growth. Through my daily tasks and responsibilities, such as reviewing handover documents, planning camp photography schedules, and engaging in social media management, I’ve honed various skills including time management, communication, and strategic planning. Working closely with the team has enhanced my collaborative abilities, while contributing to YRES’s marketing efforts has allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Additionally, transitioning to a camp counselor role in June presents an opportunity for hands-on leadership experience. Overall, my experience at YRES promises continued development and valuable insights into marketing and camp management.

Who do you want to show some appreciation to the most and why?

The marketing team, I feel like the university marketing team a very vital part of the operation at YRES.
