York Region Educational Services (YRES) Welcomes Carey Takeda and Dorothy Mok to its Board of Directors

Markham, Canada – November 30, 2023 – York Region Educational Services (YRES) is delighted to announce the appointment of two distinguished individuals, Carey Takeda and Dorothy Mok, to its esteemed Board of Directors. This strategic addition brings a wealth of experience, educational insight, and a deep commitment to community development, aligning seamlessly with YRES’s mission of providing diverse and inclusive educational opportunities to learners of all ages.

Carey Takeda holds a Bachelor of Science in Math from the University of Toronto and has been an integral part of YRES as a dedicated teacher volunteer since its inception. With a background in mentoring co-op students from Grades 11-12 across the Greater Toronto Area and leading community programs, Carey’s expertise will significantly contribute to the board’s capacity to navigate the evolving landscape of educational services.

Dorothy Mok, with a focus on Early Childhood Education at Seneca College, has been a key contributor to the YRES Volunteer Program. Serving as a Volunteer Manager, Dorothy has played a crucial role in growing the volunteering capacity from 400 to over 1200 volunteers in just six months. Her leadership was particularly evident during the summer of 2023 when she successfully led a team of 30 individuals to deliver a summer camp program for over 300 students. Dorothy’s outstanding contributions were recognized when she was named a Finalist for the prestigious Charity Village’s Best Volunteer Manager Award in 2023.

About Carey Takeda:
Carey Takeda is a dedicated educator who graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Math. He has been actively involved in teaching various community programs, including math sessions at Markham Public Library and camp sessions. Carey’s mentoring of co-op students reflects his commitment to fostering educational growth and community engagement.

About Dorothy Mok:
Dorothy Mok is an aspiring Early Childhood Educator currently studying at Seneca College. Her role as a volunteer and supervisor at YRES has been transformative, significantly increasing the volunteering capacity and leading successful initiatives, including a large-scale summer camp program. Dorothy’s outstanding leadership has been acknowledged through her nomination as a Finalist for the Charity Village’s Best Volunteer Manager Award in 2023.
