Workshops at Angus Glen Library: Igniting Creativity in Homeschoolers

In March 2025, York Region Educational Services (YRES) brought their engaging LEGO Robotics workshops to the Angus Glen Library, offering a unique learning experience for homeschool students aged 4 to 10. This exciting program introduced young learners to the world of robotics and coding, fostering creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Led by Brian Philip (Lead), Carole, and Krishna, the workshops gave students the opportunity to build and program their own robots using LEGO Education SPIKE kits. Students worked in small groups, exploring basic coding concepts through Scratch, a user-friendly programming platform. As they constructed their robots, they gained hands-on experience in technology, while also having fun customizing their creations.

Carole shared, “It’s amazing to see how quickly these young learners grasp new concepts, especially when they’re so excited to see their robots come to life. Their curiosity and enthusiasm are truly inspiring!”

Krishna added, “Watching the kids problem-solve and collaborate as they build their robots is always the highlight. These workshops are a great way to engage them in both critical thinking and teamwork in a fun environment.”

Brian, the Lead Instructor, reflected:
“It’s been a great experience bringing this program to the homeschool community at Angus Glen Library. The students are eager to learn, and it’s rewarding to see their creativity and teamwork shine through as they work on their robots.”
